    • Not eating for two people.
      • But extra energy(200k/cal/g) needed for final trimester(e.g. two slices of toast).
    • Increased needs for folic acid(a B vitamin that is water soluble).
      • Needed for development of the spine. To prevent spina bifida in the growing foetus.
      • First 3 months of pregnancy and ideally 3 months before conceiving.
      • E.g. broccoli.
    • Must not eat.
      • Pate(e.g. liver) because it can cause toxicity and still birth.
        • Too high in vitamin A which is fat soluble.
      • Soft cheeses like brie(unpasteurised) due to the risk of listeria poisoning.
        • Can result in still birth.
        • Can survive 5 degrees celsius.
    • Increased need for Iron (Fe)
      • extra iron needed in the last trimester to prevent anaemia.
    • Increased need for calcium and vitamin D.
      • For healthy development of skeleton or feotus.
