- But extra energy(200k/cal/g) needed for final trimester(e.g. two slices of toast).
- Increased needs for folic acid(a B vitamin that is water soluble).
- Needed for development of the spine. To prevent spina bifida in the growing foetus.
- First 3 months of pregnancy and ideally 3 months before conceiving.
- E.g. broccoli.
- Must not eat.
- Pate(e.g. liver) because it can cause toxicity and still birth.
- Too high in vitamin A which is fat soluble.
- Soft cheeses like brie(unpasteurised) due to the risk of listeria poisoning.
- Can result in still birth.
- Can survive 5 degrees celsius.
