- Pre Event
- Meals consumed 2-4 hours before the event - ensured liver glycogen levels are high
- Pure glucose can be eaten 5 mins prior to an event if needed
- Can benefit all games players and aerobic athletes
- If eaten too close to the event the huge glucose increase can stimulate the production of insulin , which can cause glycogen to be removed and hypoglycaemia can occur
- Pre and Post event meals
- Post event
- Vital to replace depleted glycogen stores asap
- Consume a rich carb meal for liver glycogen levels
- Meal should be eaten within 2 hours as replacement will be quicker
- Muscle glycogen stores take longer to replace, can take several days
- Post event
