Pre and Post event meals

?
View mindmap
  • Pre Event
    • Meals consumed 2-4 hours before the event - ensured liver glycogen levels are high
    • Pure glucose can be eaten 5 mins prior to an event if needed
    • Can benefit all games players and aerobic athletes
    • If eaten too close to the event the huge glucose increase can stimulate the production of insulin , which can cause glycogen to be removed and hypoglycaemia can occur
    • Pre and Post event meals
      • Post event
        • Vital to replace depleted glycogen stores asap
        • Consume a rich carb meal for liver glycogen levels
        • Meal should be eaten within 2 hours as replacement will be quicker
        • Muscle glycogen stores take longer to replace, can take several days
