- Exercise
- Regular exercise has long term benefits. Depending on age group the reason for it may differ for example: a child for development or an elderly person for mobility
- Children in nursery are given outdoor play on climbing frames. A person in residential care taken out for walks
- Diet
- The amount and quality of food we eat affects our Q of L - including diabetics. A balanced diet consist of varied and appetising food
- Special diets, individuals choice- cultural, ethnic or religious needs
- Safety
- Everyone is at risk from: own carelessness, problems from age or disability, incorrect use of equipment or ill treat from others. Improved Q of L if these a risks are avoided.
- Using specialist equipment e.g. hoists, stair lifts. Safety lock/ buzzers on doors
- Hygiene
- Refers to cleanliness and to use precautions to reduce infection to prevent unnecessary disease or illness
- Nursery toys should be sterilised regularly. In care settings Alcohol gel can be used by staff and visitors. Food preparation and food safety guidelines should be followed
- Physical Comfort
- Provision of suitable environment to meet individuals needs- providing the care to maintain comfort
- Allowing peace to sleep, correct height furniture, regular change of babies nappy, moving the bedridden to prevent bed sores.
- Pain relief
- Provision of ways to ensure people are pain free. The experience of pain on a regular basis can result in a serious outcome- cancer arthritis. if pain is not controlled the it has a negative affect on Q of L
- provision of prescribed medication at prescribed time. Use of TENS machines. Massage
- Exercise
