  • Physical Disability
    • A generic term that encompasses a wide range of disabilities and conditions
      • A physical disability is usually lifelong and may be life limiting.
      • It can be congenital (from birth) or acquired at any stage.
      • Needs can change and there are usually associated learning difficulties including sensory impairment.
    • Disability Discrimination Act
      • Protects any person with a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on his ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
    • It is suggested that young people with physical disabilities need to be considered as individuals and that if schools are to achieve the goal of inclusion they need to develop ways to accommodate each individuals needs. (Curtin & Clarke 2005)
