I split the topic of photosynthesis up into different parts, as it is such a big topic, so this mindmap is just the basics of photosynthesis.

  • Photosynthesis
    • Green plants use light energy to convert raw materials from their surroundings into simple sugars.
    • Carbon dioxide + water --> glucose + oxygen
      • 6CO2 + 6H20 --> C6H1206 + 602
    • Requirements for photosynthesis
      • Carbon dioxide
        • Diffuses  into the leaves from the air.
      • Light
        • Provides energy for the process.
      • Water
        • Absorbed by the plant's roots from the soil.
      • Chlorophyll
        • A green pigment that absorbs the energy from light.
    • Leaves of plants make glucose from carbon dioxide & water using light energy from the Sun.
      • Carbon dioxide + water --> glucose + oxygen
        • 6CO2 + 6H20 --> C6H1206 + 602
      • Light energy is captured by chlorophyll in the leaves & converted to chemical energy in the glucose.
      • Oxygen is produced as a waste product.
    • Carbon dioxide & water are raw materials for photosynthesis.
