  • Photosynthesis
    • Chloroplasts
      • Stroma - light independent stage
      • Thylakoid membrane - light dependent stage
      • DNA in loops, ribosomes, starch grains, double membrane for envelope
    • Light-dependent stage
      • Photolysis: splitting water into oxygen, H+ and e- --> these e- replace those lost from PSII
      • Non-cyclic phosphorylation: z scheme, e- promoted from PSII then PSI then through NADP reductase
      • Cyclic phosphorylation: promoted e- from PSI re-enter the electron transport chain and come back to PSI
    • Photosynthetic pigments
      • Chlorophyll a - in PSII (P680) and PSI (P700)
      • Chlorophyll b - other pigment, absorbs 500-640nm
      • Accessory pigments -  Xanthophyll (yellow) and Carotene (orange)
    • Light-independent stage (Calvin Cycle)
      • RuBP (5C) + CO2 --> 2GP (3C)
        • 2GP (3C) --> 2TP (3C)
          • NADP made, ATP used
          • 2TP (3C) --> RuBP (5C)
            • ATP used
          • GP: AAs, fatty acids. TP: hexose sugars and glycerol
        • catalysed by Rubisco
        • 2TP (3C) --> RuBP (5C)
          • ATP used
  • RuBP (5C) + CO2 --> 2GP (3C)
    • 2GP (3C) --> 2TP (3C)
      • NADP made, ATP used
      • GP: AAs, fatty acids. TP: hexose sugars and glycerol
