- Photosynthesis
- Chloroplasts
- Stroma - light independent stage
- Thylakoid membrane - light dependent stage
- DNA in loops, ribosomes, starch grains, double membrane for envelope
- Light-dependent stage
- Photolysis: splitting water into oxygen, H+ and e- --> these e- replace those lost from PSII
- Non-cyclic phosphorylation: z scheme, e- promoted from PSII then PSI then through NADP reductase
- Cyclic phosphorylation: promoted e- from PSI re-enter the electron transport chain and come back to PSI
- Photosynthetic pigments
- Chlorophyll a - in PSII (P680) and PSI (P700)
- Chlorophyll b - other pigment, absorbs 500-640nm
- Accessory pigments - Xanthophyll (yellow) and Carotene (orange)
- Light-independent stage (Calvin Cycle)
- RuBP (5C) + CO2 --> 2GP (3C)
- 2GP (3C) --> 2TP (3C)
- NADP made, ATP used
- 2TP (3C) --> RuBP (5C)
- ATP used
- GP: AAs, fatty acids. TP: hexose sugars and glycerol
- catalysed by Rubisco
- 2TP (3C) --> RuBP (5C)
- ATP used
- 2GP (3C) --> 2TP (3C)
