- PHOBIAS
- All phobias characterised by extreme fear and anixety, triggered by place, object and situation.
- DSM recognises 3 categories of phobias
- Specific Phobia: phobia of an object
- Social Phobia: phobia of social situation
- Agoraphobia: phobia of being outside or in a public space.
- BEHAVIOURAL
- Avoidance: Avoid coming into contact with stimulus, making it hard to go about daily life.
- EMOTIONAL
- Anxiety: anixety disorders, fear is the immeditate response, anxiety prevents sufferer relaxing
- Emotional responses are unreasonable and irrational.
- COGNITIVE
- The ways people process information.
- Irrational beliefs: these increase the pressure for the sufferer to perform well in social situations.
- Panic: a response to the presence of phobic stimulus
- Crying, screaming, running
- BEHAVIOURAL
- Avoidance: Avoid coming into contact with stimulus, making it hard to go about daily life.
