- nobody wanted to host due to previous hosted countries being left in debt

- they were the only ones allowed to use the Olympic logo on any of their brands/products
- refurbished existing venues
- athletes were housed in the university so they used to facilities that were already available
- without coverages of TV companies would never want to get involved
- due to the success of the games he was named Times magazines Man of the Year in 1984
