- Overview
- Improvements made by the government only made life better for the rich
- People still had a lack of knowledge about the plague
- Living conditions mostly stayed the same, though there were some changes (not all of them were for the better)
- Epidemics
- Plague Act (1604)
- Change in attitudes to sick people
- 1578-1667 - people were locked up for six weeks
- 1518 - sick people could walk around freely with a white stick
- 1528 - Public Orders were issued
- People avoided the sick
- Whole families would be locked in their house if one of them became ill
- Still believed in miasma
- Wore heavy cloaks, hoods and leather beaks filled with sweet smelling flowers
- Rich ran away to the countryside
- Didn't do as much for God for forgiveness as medieval period

- Cramped streets
- Animals still lived in the streets
- Lack of sunlight from overbearing buildings
- Open drains were running through the streets
- Houses were overcrowded and mouldy/damp leading to breathing problems especially in children
- Addictions to coffee and sugar led to health problems (obesity and heart strain)
- Houses were still being made from wood
- Some were beginning to be made out of stone
- The rich enjoyed a varied diet from the colonies
- Water could be paid to be piped to houses
- Waste would be collected and cesspits emptied for you

- Roads and paths were being paved
- Rich people were getting bigger houses
- Houses were being made out of stone

- Anyone who made a dunghill had to pay a fine
- All house owners had to clean outside of their house twice a week
- Pigs had to be kept in stys
