    • Psychological research is subject to independent scrutiny by other psychologists who are experts in the field
    • Reviewer will assess the work in terms of its validity, significance and originality
    • Peer review is important as it ensures that any research paper published in a scientific journal has integrity and can be taken seriously by other researchers.

      • P - Subject to publication bias
        • E - This is known as the file drawer problem because peer review tend to favour publications of positive results, as editors want research that has important implications in order to increase the standing of their journal.
          • E - Consequently our understanding of a subject becomes distorted.
            • L - This suggests that peer review may result in unrepresentative finding being published.
