      • Born 1340
      • Worked as a priest in York. He then became priest at St Jame's church in Colchester.
      • Believed it was wrong that some people in England were very rich while others were very poor
      • Balls church sermons criticising the feudal system upset his bishop.
        • In 1366 he was removed from his post as Priest from the church
      • He had no fixed job or home so began to travel
        • gave sermons wherever he could
          • Urged people not to pay their tithes
          • Believed bible should be publishedEnglish
      • influenced by 14th century preacher John Wycliffe
