- Particles vibrate on the spot
- Arranged in a regular pattern that doesn't change
- Have a fixed shape and volume
- Tight forces between particles called BONDS - keep the aprticles in the same place
- LIQUIDS
- Particles still have bonds but they are weaker
- Particles are able to slip and slide past each other
- Have a fixed volume but change shape to fit the bottom of their container
- GASES
- Particles have no bonds - they can go wherever they want
- The particles go in one direction, hit a 'wall' then zip off somewhere else
- Have no fixed shape or volume - they take the shape and fill their container
