  • Paper 5 - planning an investigation
    • 1- stating a hypothesis
      • - Tested to confirm whether or not a variable has an effect on another variable & what the relationship is between them
    • 2- Variables
    • 3- Range and intervals
    • 4- Apparatus
      • Sometimes apparatus needed to be used will be stated in the question
        • IF NOT= use apparatus best suited for experiment
    • 5- Method
      • 1- Changing & Measuring the IV
        • 2- Keeping key variables constant
          • 3- Measuring DV
      • 4- Sequence of steps ( 1-7)
    • 6- Risk asessment
      • Identify ways in which experiment may cause injury/ accident & suggest safety precautions related to risk
    • 7- Reliability
      • State that the experiment should be repeated 3 times for each value of IV
        • In this way a mean can be calculated
  • 2.2) Independant variable= factor that you change in an investigation
    • Dependant variable= factor that changes as the result of changes in the IV
  • Controlled variables = need to be sure there is no other variables that may affect results
    • Continuous variable= can have any value within its range
      • Discontinuous variable= has only a limited number of possible values
  • - Decide what are the IV and DV & important variables that should be controlled and standardised
