- P2.6 Radioactivity
- 6.1 Observing nuclear Radiation
- Nuclear Radiation is something emitted from an unstable nucleus.
- Who discovered Nuclear radiation?
- Henri Becquerel in 1896. When an image of a key appeared on photographic plates he had in a draw.
- Types of radiation
- Beta- high energy electrons created in and emitted from unstable nuclei
- Gamma- Electromagnetic radiation emitted from an unstable nuclei in radioactive substances.
- Alpha- 2 protons and 2 nuetrons. Emmitted by unstable nuclei .
- Radioactive Decay: is a completely random process (like throwing a coin). We know particles will give out radiation, but we cannot predict when this happens.
