- osmosis
- osmosis is a special case of diffusion
- osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration.
- partially permeable membrane is a membrane with holes in it. only small molecules can pass through the holes like water
- the water molecules pass through both sides of the membrane because water molecules move randomly.
- because there are more water molecules on one side than the other there is a steady net flow of water into the region with less water molecules.
- this mean strong sugar gets more dilute as the water is trying to even up the sides.
- osmosis is a type of diffusion- passive movement of water particles from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration
- osmosis is a special case of diffusion
