- DIFFUSION AND OSMOSIS
- diffusion
- diffusion is the net movement of particles in a gas or liquid to an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
- leaves are adapted to increase the rate of diffusion of carbon dioxide and oxygen
- this happens by having gaps between the spongy mesophyll cells
- due to large surface area
- this happens due to special openings call the stomata which are spaced out
- the rate of diffusion is not a fixed quantity
- this is due to a steeper concentration gradient
- also due to a short distance for a molecule to travel
- osmosis
- osmosis is a type of diffusion
- osmosis is the movement of water across a partially permeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration
- diffusion
