        • Creating a conflict that would last 10 years, and extend the cold war
      • the USA boycotted the games, alongside some British athletes
    • Los Angeles [1984]
      • in response to the 1980 games, Soviet Union and other countries announced they would boycott these games
      • the Soviet Union blamed advertisement of the games and lack of security measures
