    • Behavioural
      • compulsions - repetitive behaviours  that aim to stop anxiety
      • avoidance - avoiding situations that may trigger it, interfering with daily life
    • Emotional
      • anxiety and distress - obsessions can be unpleasant and frightening, and the anxiety can be overwhelming
      • depression - low mood and lack of enjoyment
      • guilt - over minor moral details and issues
      • disgust - at something external, or at the self
    • Cognitive
      • obsessive thoughts - unwanted, recurring thoughts. such as contamination and checking
      • cognitive strategies - that deal with the obsessions such as praying, distracting them from everyday tasks
