  • Norman Law Enforcement
    • Most towns had a watchman who enforced curfews.
      • Weren't paid > didn't take job seriously.
    • System called Tithing > Group of freemen promised to keep each other out of trouble.
      • If one committed a crime - rest would have to report him or they'd all get punished.
    • Constables could break up fights, arrest people and had responsibility of preventing fires.
      • Not very well paid > Had to look for other work too.
      • Normans appointed Constables and gave them more power.
    • Hue and Cry
      • Person had to raise an alarm of a crime being committed. Anyone ignoring it could be fined.
