  • Non Participant Observation
    • The researcher simply observes without taking part.
    • Preferred by Positivists for a number of reasons :
      • 1. Quicker, larger and more representative sample which can be studied
      • 2.Observer remains detached, therefore they do not lose objectivity
        • 3.Uses standardized observational categories
      • Interpretivists reject structured observations due to the imposition of researcher's view on reality.
