      • Nigeria has borders with Cameroon in the east, Benin in the west, Chat in the north east and Niger in the north west. In the south is the Atlantic ocean

    • Importance:
      • 184 million people live in Nigeria
        • this is much larger than any other in Africa
        • This population is growing quickly due to a high birth rate and high proportion of young people
        • It is predicted to have the fourth largest population in the world.
        • Despite this it has a quarter of the poor people in Africa - more than 100 women die from complications in birth each day and 2,000 children under five die from preventable diseases
          • Nigeria is rich in oil
            • This makes 75% of the governments money
            • however the rapid economic growth is more in non oil income areas
            • the biggest growing industry is Manufacturing and services

      • Its main trading partners include the European Union (EU), the United States, India, Brazil, and China
        • This is from the time being owned by the UK - it became independent in 1960

        • It is  fifth largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions
