  • Newham- the canning town and custom house (CATCH)
    • Housing:
      • Up to 10,000 new homes have replaced the old high-rise tower blocks- particularly family sized houses that are affordable for either rent or purchase.
      • Much of the existing housing has either been replaced or renovated.
    • Wealth and employment:
      • Skill training has been provided for local people.
      • New workplaces.
      • Better transport to work (buses)- few residents have cars.
    • Education:
      • Improvements to primary and secondary schools. in 2007, 55.5% of Newham's students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at A* to C- double the rate of 1996 (27.9%)
    • Health and welfare:
      • New health care, library, community centre and upgraded play areas for children.
      • Open spaces have been redesigned, and there have been moves to make the streets safer.
