- Peer to peer networks
- In a peer to peer network resources are shared among equals. The network doesn't use an operating system only a hub which connects the devices
- Advantages- Cheaper to set up than client-server.
- Disadvantage- Security risks due to wireless connection
- Client-server networks
- Used in larger organisations and is server based. The server is a complex machine which uses an operating system to manage complex access rights for different computers.
- The server is connected to network switches which connect devices and have a higher performance than a hub
- Advantages- Backed up centrally, cheap and easy to replace
- Disadvantage- Physical damage to server ruins network, traffic may slow down network
