- Natural Law
- St Thomas Aquinas
- Influenced by Aristotle philosophy
- Believed in the syndrises rule
- To do good and avoid evil
- Five primary precepts
- Preservation of life
- Order in society
- Education
- Reproduction
- These branch off into secondary precepts which Aquinas make apparent are not absolute as they can
change as circumstances do.
- Preservation of life = do not kill the inncocent
- Order in society= Abide by the law of the government
- Worship God = Go to church and pray
- Reproduction= no not use contraception
- Education= Pursue knowledge and truth
- Once we have obeyed Natural law, we will reach Eudemonia and flourish and be allowed into Gods Heaven.
- Criticisms
- Not everyone believes in God or natural law
- If the Synderisis rule is innate, why do some ppl do evil and not good
- 3rd world countries who have an issue with aids are encouraged to use contraception for the prevention of aids. Thus going against the primary precept reproduction
- If we all have natural law why are some people gay
