      • the court decided unanimously in 1954 that 'in the field of public education "separate but equal" has no place'
      • this reversed the ruling of plessy vs ferguson in 1986 and made segregation of schools illegal
    • was a major victory, and it helped to grow the civil rights movement. thurgood marshall later became a supreme court judge
    • many in the south resisted Brown. by 1964, 98% of black children still went to segrated schools.
    • growth of tv and attention = bigger audience
