- Horrible snob who looks down on those with less money.
- Refuses to support Eva Smith with money, because she used her name ('Mrs Birling').

- Has the least respect for the Inspector. She tries to intimidate him and lies when she is shown the photograph.
- Speaks patronisingly to her children and treats Sheila and Eric like small children. Proves she does not know anything about her kids and has no close relationship with them, when she find out Eric is an alcoholic.
- Blames the 'father' of Eva's baby for Eva's death, then realises it was her own son, then blames Eva herself.
