  • Strengths of Virtue Ethics
    • Places an emphasis on examining the character of the moral agent
    • Regards human relationships & need to look after & care for those close to MG
      • Other ethical systems ignore such relationships
        • Kant considers them morally dangerous
    • Takes seriously attributes other ethical theories regard with suspicion
      • Human emotions & responsibilities are important
        • Many other ethical theories regard emotions as not being logical & dangerous to morality
    • Allows MG to make decisions based on their moral well-being & not simply on what is legally right
      • Virtuous person distinguished from someone who merely obeys laws
    • Reject ts simplistic rules or maxims as a basis for morality
      • Regards morality as complex
        • Moral truths cannot be found in statements such as 'the greatest good for...'
    • Does not assert it is able to solve any problem or dilemma
      • Tries to equip us with virtues to make good decisions
    • Places virtues such as courage, truthfulness, etc at the centre of morality
