  • Moscovici (1969)
    • Aim: To investigate the process of innovation by looking at how a consistent minority effect the opinions of a larger group, possibly creating doubt and leading them to question and then alter their views
    • Procedure
      • All female group were given an eye test to check that they weren't colour-blind.
      • They were placed into a group of 4 participants and 2 confederates.
      • They were all shown 36 slides that were all a shade of blue and were asked to state the colour out loud
      • There were two group in the experiment
        • In the first group the confederates were consistent and answered green for every slide
        • In the second group, the confederates were inconsistent and answered green 24 times and blue 12 times
    • Findings
      • In the consistent group, 8% of trials resulted in participants answering green which agreed with the majority. 32% agreed at least once
      • In the inconsistent group, 15 of the participants answered green
    • Conclusion
      • The study suggested that the minorities can change the opinion of the majority, particularly if they are consistent
