  • Moles and Molar mass
    • The mass of 1 mole of a substance is called its molar mass
      • Relative atomic mass in grams
    • Ca(NO3)2 Calcium Nitrate
      • Ca=40, N=14x3=42x2=84, O=16x3=48x2=96
        • 40+84+96=16-4g/mol
    • Metal carbonates will thermally decompose
      • Metal carbonate ---> metal oxide+carbon dioxide
    • Work out how much PbO is made when 267g of PbCO3 is heated
      • Pb=207, C=12, O=16
        • PbO=223g are made
    • Number of moles=mass of chemical/mol-ar mass
