- Mitosis
- When a cell reproduces itself by splitting to form two identical offspring
- Makes new cells for growth and repair
- 1. In a cell that's not dividing, the DNA is spread out in long strands
- 2. DNA copies itself and forms X-shaped chromosomes that are exact duplicates
- 3. The chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell and cell fibres pull them apart, to opposite ends
- 4. Membranes form around each set of chromosomes, to become the nuclei of the 2 new cells
- 5. The cytoplasm divides to make 2 new identical cells
- Asexual Reproduction
- Can happen in plants as well
