- P: MILITARY EXPENDITURR
- E: Military expenditure in most nation states are increasing as realists believe that war is the only effective way of survival (state egoism).
- E.g. USA has the largest military, spending $569 billion (Trump wants to extend this by $100 billion). China is the 2nd at $190 billion and UK wanting to renew Trident.
- P: TERRORISM
- E: The large spread of international terrorism has led to terrorists, such as ISIS, to use military power to spread their ideology.
- E: For example, ISIS seeks a caliphate (a borderless Islamic World), by military attacks, such as Paris bombings in 2015.
- This creates a climate of fear, on global scale, causing nation states to enlarge their military force, in order to fight back.
- E.g. In a reaction to the French bombings, the govts in Britain, Russia and USA decided to launch air strikes against ISIS.
- E: The large spread of international terrorism has led to terrorists, such as ISIS, to use military power to spread their ideology.
- This creates a climate of fear, on global scale, causing nation states to enlarge their military force, in order to fight back.
- P: FAILURE OF DIPLOMACY
- E: Military power has been used over diplomacy, as diplomacy has failed to create peace.
- E.g. The UN sent humanitarian aid in Syria, in an attempt to create peace, but they were bombed.
- (UN is a liberal institution created after WW2, to promote peace around the world).
- P: MILITARY EXPENDITURR
