    • Light Microscopes
      • For regular use when relatively low magnification and resolution is enough
      • Used to study living cells
      • Throughout their development, the magnification of light microscopes has increased, but very high magnifications are not possible.
    • Electron Microscopes
      • Electron microscopes use a beam of electrons instead of beams or rays of light.
      • Living cells cannot be observed using an electron microscope because samples are placed in a vacuum.
      • Electron microscopes can magnify images about two million times.
    • Magnification of the microscope = magnification of eyepiece × magnification of objective
    • Magnification = size of image ÷ real size of object
