    • Microorganisms
      • Tiny living things that can be unicellular and multicellular
      • Useful microbes
        • Can be used for baking( dough is kneaded so it traps air), aerobic respiration happens with yeast, used in sugar, water, and yoghurt. The glucose feeds the microbes. It is also used in brewing beer an wine (yeast), but as there is no oxygen, so it is anaerobic respiration.
      • Fungi
        • Yeast, Mushroom, Tree fungi
          • Structure like a plant cell
            • Can be any size
              • Grows fast and releases poisons. It reproduces by spores and cells are joined by strands
        • Used in food, alcohol, bread, and antibiotics
      • Bacteria
        • E.Coli, MRSA, Salmonella
        • Multiply quickly release poison, attacks cells. Reproduces by binary fission- cell divides in two to multiply.
        • Used in yoghurt

      • Viruses
        • HIV, HPV, Meningitis
        • 1/1000000 mm
        • Releases poisons, attacks cells, makes milions of copies
        • No uses
    • Disease
      • Defence against disease
        • Simply washing your hands sends bacteria away, and using soap kills more.
        • White blood cells are the body's defence system. The white clood ell recognises the antigen, and produces antibodies, which destroy it. Phagocytes ingest harmful foreign particles, dead or dying cells, and bacteria.
        • Antibiotics are drugs that harm and kill bacteria.
          • Alexander Fleming thought that a mould, penicillin, killed the bacteria in a petri dish.
        • Superbugs
          • Superbugs are bacteria that are antibiotic resistant. This includes MRSA and C. Difficile. It is mainly found on bed linen, gowns and tables and is hard to get treat as it is antibiotic resistant.
