  • Melody Patterns
    • Melodic Inversion
      • In melodic inversion, you keep the same intervals  in the melody but you invert them, for example if the original melody goes up a major third the invertyed one goes down a major third
      • It makes a melody sound very different but not completely different
    • Retrograde
      • Retrograde is playing the notes in reverse order but with the original rhythm
      • You can also have a retrograde inversion
    • Sequencing
      • Sequencing is repeating a pattern but varying the notes.
    • Imitation
      • A phrase is repeated with slight changes each time
    • Ostinato
      • An Ostinato is a repeated pattern
      • It can be in the bass line, melody or chord pattern
