  • MEDICAL ETHICS
    • SANCTITY OF LIFE
      • the belief that there is something special/holy about life
      • Human life different/more special than other kinds of life (e.g. animal)
      • God plans all human lives and they should all be respected
      • Because Christians believe God has given them their lives, they have a responsibility to take care of themselves + others
      • SOUL - the non-physical part of a person that may go to heaven when the person dies
    • FERTILITY TREATMENT
      • some christians against AID (A.I, by Donor) because it introduces a third party
      • some against production of spare embryos
      • Some encourage it because it makes people happy
      • Some believe its wrong because God decides whether people get to have babies or not
      • AID/H - Artificial insemination by donor/ husband
    • ABORTION
      • RC's against abortion completely, unless the pregnancy puts the mothers life at risk
      • METHODIST CHURCH says abortion is evil, but there are cases where the abortion is the lesser of 2 evils (e.g. baby would be born w/ an incurable disease)
      • debate over when the babies life begins
      • CofE mainly against abortion - some acceptable reasons (e.g. rape)
    • CLONING
      • Christians think human cloning would be unacceptable
      • Mostly banned
      • Destruction/ creation of a large no. of eggs against sanctity of life
    • EUTHANASIA
  • SUICIDE
    • was considered a crime/sin
    • ARGUMENTS AGAINST
      • God chooses how/when people die
      • A form of murder
      • Considered selfish
      • Suffering can bring people closer to God
      • Body should be respected as a temple/where God lives
