    • Augestine Volcano in Alaska
      • It is 1,174 miles south of Anchorage (the largest city in Alaska.)
      • It is a dome volcano.
      • Plinian eruption with andesitic lava lava which is more violent after a period of inactivity.
      • On the 6th of December, 2006 there was a sulfur plume and hundreds of small eruptions. There were also pyroclastic flows that traveled down the flanks of the volcano.
      • In 2007, there were shallow focus earthquakes and a large ash cloud.
    • Mount Okmok in Alaska's Aleutian Islands.
      • Shield volcano
      • Erupted on the 12th of July, 2008 without any warning.
        • There were no precursors.
      • The eruption sent a plume of ash 50,00-ft into the sky. The ash fell onto the fishing village of Unalaska.
      • There were mud flows and lahars.
      • The eruption caused heavy tephra to destroy 2 seismic information sensors.
    • Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy.
      • Pilean eruption - basaltic lava.
      • Europe's high volcano (3,3310m) and is the most active.
      • Mount Etna rests on the subduction boundary where the African tectonic plate is being pushed under the Eurasian plate.
      • It erupted in late 2006 and early 2007 which resulted ins several major episodes of lava fountaining with ash emissions and explosions on the Eastern side.
      • In May 2008 a flurry of earthquakes accompanied the opening of new fissures and lava flows travelled 6km down the Valle del Bove.
      • Composite volcano
      • On the 3rd of December, 2015, an eruption occured and resulted in the crater exhibiting a lava fountain which reached 3,300ft in height.
      • There are geochemical monitoring programme which test gas/fluid emissions to help predict new eruptions and warn of dangerous gas emissions.
      • (2002) Completely destroyed the tourist station at Piano Provenzana
        • 29th of July, 2002, the airport of Sicily's second city, Catania, was forced to close while the runways were cleared of ash.
        • During the 2002 eruptions, dams of soil and volcanic rock were put up to protect the tourist base at and helped to divert flow.
          • The Italian government pledged immediate financial assistance of more than $8 million and tax breaks for the villagers.
        • None of the towns on Etna's slope were damaged, but there were losses in agriculture and tourism.
