  • Measures of Dispersion
    • Definition; they give you an indication of the spread of your data
    • Range; difference between the highest and lowest values
      • Strengths; easy to calculate
      • Weaknesses; does not take all values into account, can be easily skewed by extremes scores
    • Standard Deviation; shows to what extent the values in a data set deviate from the mean
      • Strengths; all data is used so it is a more accurate representation of the data, accurate in relation to the mean
      • Weaknesses; can be difficult to calculate, less helpful in understanding data that is not normally distributed
