- Measures of Central Tendency
- Definition; a single value that describes the way in which a group of data cluster around a central value
- Mode; the most occurring number in a data set
- Strengths; only one that we can use when the data is not numerical meaning it allows for analysis of the most common category
- Weaknesses; may not accurately represent the data so if there is not a most popular answer it is effectively useless
- Median; numbers are put in numerical order and then it is the middle value
- Strengths; extreme scores are marginalised so it is the most strong to use if there data is skewed by extreme scores
- Weakness; difficult and time consuming if the is a large data set meaning it will be less representative as it doesn't depend on all the items in the data
- Mean; add all the data and divide by how many there is
- Strengths; all data is used to calculate it so it is the most accurate way to represent the data
- Weaknesses; extreme scores can distort the data so it is not appropriate if the data set is skewed
