  • The Four-Fold Purpose of Marriage
    • Partnership
      • God didn't create us to be alone. "It is not good that the man should be alone"- Genesis 2:18
      • We have a yearning for companion-ship. It is part of our spiritual make-up.
      • This divinely inspired partnership was designed to fortify both participants in ways that mere words cannot express.
    • Pleasure
      • Relaxes and fortifies us through sexual relations.
      • God created us with a sex drive and intended for men and women to express themselves and joyfully fulfil their sexual desires.
      • It can be argued that God engineered our body parts to fit perfectly together.
    • Procreation
      • It is a vital aspect of the marriage
        • The conceiving and bearing of offspring
      • The conceiving and bearing of offspring
      • Genesis 1:28 "Be fruitful and multiply and full the earth"
        • Jeremiah 29:5-6 "Take wives, and have sons and daughters"
    • Purity
      • God purposefully created marriage to protect humans from the consequen-ces of sexual immorality.
      • Hebrews 13:4 "Let marriage be held in honour among all....God will judge the immoral and adulterous"
      • God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex. Marriage is the only pathway.
      • Roman Catholics may use Natural Law to emphasis that procreation takes primacy over the other purposes, whereas others such as Quakers might say that partnership is of primary importance.
