- Marketisation Policies: Independence, Competition and choice
- Conservative 79-97
- Local management of schools, League tables, Funding dependent on student population
- Parental choice, National curriculum, OFSTED
- Labour 97-10
- Increased funding, More free nursery education, smaller primary classes
- Better Paid teachers, extra funding in poor areas, specialist schools
- Coalition 10-15
- State schools encouraged to be academies, free schools, pupil premium
- English baccalaureate, reform of exams and curriculum, tougher performance targets
- Privatisation: improves standards, more parental choice, however: may not reinvest profits and children may be left without schools if they lose money
- Marketisation policies:
- Ball - marketisation = myth of parentocracy
- Social divisions may be widened as more resources are given to higher achievers
- Schools dumb down work so students do not find it too hard and go somewhere else
- OFSTED manipulated easily by the gov
- Conservative 79-97
- Private education
- Keeping children out of the state system is a sensible way to improve opportunites and as the teacher pay is higher it attarcts better qualified + more experienced teachers
- People argue there are many issues with non state education
- Widens the gap between class and educational achievement
- May not actually do better because of better teachers but because classes are much smaller and so students are given required attention
- Old boys network cycle
- Wealthy family, expensive public school education, top uni's, well paid and powerful jobs and positions, marriage to rich/influential people
- Marketisation Policies: Independence, Competition and choice
