- Neptune is the Greek god of water, enforces the idea that Macbeth is the tragic hero and shows he is starting to show his failure.
- This also links to Baptism and how Macbeth feels guilty for what he has done. Water is used to baptise people and Macbeth is asking for a whole ocean to Baptise him.
- This differs from Lady Macbeth who just asks for a little water. This infers that Macbeth shows more humane traits than Lady Macbeth reinforcing the idea that Lady Macbeth is inhumane and part of the supernatural forces.
