  • Cell structures
    • all living organisms are based on units known as cells
    • there are eight life processes that are common to all living organisms
    • unspecialised  animal cells all have a cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus and mitochondira
    • unspecialised plant cells also have a cellulose wall and may have a permanent vacuole. Green parts contain chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll or photosynthesis
    • enzymes act as biological catalysts in metabolic reactions
    • enzymes can function differently according to the temperature and pH
    • cells respire anaerobically and aerobically to release energy from food
    • substances can move in and out of cells through diffusion, osmosis and active transport
    • in multicellular organism cells of embryos from specialised cells which carry out particular functions in bodies
