      • China: 120; 60 boy 60 girl 40 age 7, 40 age 9, 40 age 11 from Hangzhou
      • Canada: 108; 58 boy 50 girl 36 age 7, 40 age 9, 32 age 11
    • IV: nationality, age, anti or pro-social story, physical or social story DV: how they rated the behaviour in the story
    • Procedure
      • children randomly allocated to physical or social story
      • each seen individually
      • Rating chart was explained to them; behavior was positive = stars, behavior was negative = plusses
      • told 4 stories and questioned after each
      • counterbalanced to change order stories were heard in
      • 4 stories: 1) prosocial truth 2)prosocial lie 3)antisocial truth 4) antisocial lie
    • Results
      • Story 1: no sig dif between culture Ca gave similar ratings at any age, Ch rated less positive with age
      • Story 2: Ca became less neg with age, Ch rated neg at 7 but pos at 11
      • Story 3: both viewed as positive
      • Story 4: rated more neg as age increased, irrespective of culture
    • Conclusions: moral development is different in different cultures as a result of socio-cultural norms

      • IR: 8 stories make it replicable, 4 stories per child so no 'one offs'
