  • Lead
    • Sources
      • Industry - workers inhale dust or absorb it in skin
        • Reduced using water sprays and dust masks
      • Water - pipes contain lead which may dissolve and be consumed
        • Phosphoric acid added to water - reacts with lead to make insoluble lead phosphate
        • Some pipes have been replaced
      • Paint - may be consumed by infants and paint removal produces lead vapours
        • Hot air removal guns produces less vapours
      • Petrol - TEL used to be added to petrol to make it an anti-knock agent or valve lubricant, lead would be present in exhaust fumes
        • Alternative fuels now used e.g. unleaded
