- Industry - workers inhale dust or absorb it in skin
- Reduced using water sprays and dust masks
- Water - pipes contain lead which may dissolve and be consumed
- Phosphoric acid added to water - reacts with lead to make insoluble lead phosphate
- Some pipes have been replaced
- Paint - may be consumed by infants and paint removal produces lead vapours
- Hot air removal guns produces less vapours
- Petrol - TEL used to be added to petrol to make it an anti-knock agent or valve lubricant, lead would be present in exhaust fumes
- Alternative fuels now used e.g. unleaded
