  • Le Nino
    • 1. Humboldt current doesn't appear due to a warming of ocean surface temperature (by about 10C).
      • No nutrient rich upwelling = fewer fish for peruvian fishermen.
    • 2. El Nino lasts for aprox. 18 months from when it started.
      • Happens aprox. once every four years. Scientists don't know why.
      • The atmosphere is stirred up by the El Nino causing changes across the entire Pacific.
    • 3. La Nina
      • Is like an extreme Humboldt Current.
    • Normal conditions return.
