- Effects of Variables can be observed by manipulating them
- Appeals to positivists because on scientific collecting and comparing of data
- High in reliability as it's standardised

- Experimenter expectations many distort the perceptions of results obtained
- Unnatural environment means it's not possible to generalise to real life situations
- Despite volunteering, participants can still be deceived such as Milgrams obedience experiment
- Hawthorne effect: Altering behaviour in an intimidating situation
- Demand Characterisitc: participants can guess aim and try to please/displease the investigator
