- Truman was worried that the fall of Korea would lead to the fall of Japan
- The far east was gaining more communist power
- NSC68 worked towards retracting communism
- They fought USSR indirectly through Korea

- Course of events
- June 25th 1950 the North attacked and where hugely succesful
- They captured most of South Korea and American troops retreated to Pusan
- September 15th 1950 UN troops landed in Inchon to drive out North Korean troops.
- October 7th the UN troops made it all the way to the Chinese border in some areas
- November 25th the North attacked back and by December 31st 500000 Chinese troops recaptured North Korea and bits of the south
- 27th July 1953 a Truce was signed in agreement that China would stop fighting or they would be bombed
