- New buildings were built further apart to prevent domino effect
- Flexible steel frames ere used on high rise buildings
- Concrete frames were reinforced with steel
- Bridges were fitted with rubber blocks (to absorb shocks)
- New laws to makes buildings and transport structures were more EQ proof
- They now practice EQ drills every year
