- Nephrons are the filtration units in the kidneys
- A high pressure is built up which squeezes water, urea, ions and sugar out of the blood and into the Bowman's capsule
- Membranes between the blood vessels and the Bowman's capsule act like filters so big molecules like proteins stay in the blood
- Reabsorption
- As liquid flows along the nephron substances are selectively reabsorbed.
- ALL the glucose is reabsorbed via active transport
- Sufficient ions are reabsorbed via active transport. Excess ions are not.
- Sufficient water is reabsorbed.
- Release of wastes
- Remaining substances like urea continue out of the nephron and out of the bladder as urine.
