- Stroke Volume
- The amount of blood ejected from the heart per beat.
- Cardiac Output
- The amount of blood ejected from the heart per minute. Cardiac output = heart rate x stroke volume.
- Heart rate
- The number of times the heart beats per minute.
- Blood Pressure
- The strength and force that blood exerts on blood vessels as it is travelling through them.
- Cholesterol
- It is made in the liver from fatty foods. There are two types - Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL).
- Required in small amount for essential processes in the body.
- LDL is 'bad' cholesterol. Increases the risk of a heart attack and stroke.
- HDL is 'good' cholesterol and it transports cholesterol away from the cells back to the liver to be broken down.
- Ventilation Rate -
- The rate at which gas enters or leaves the lungs.
- Lactic Acid
- A colourless syrupy organic acid formed in sour milk and produced in the muscle tissues during strenuous exercise.
- Oxygen Debt
- A temporary oxygen shortage in the body tissues arising from exercise.
- Gaseous exchange
- The diffusion of gases from an area of higher concentration to a area of lower concentration.
- Tidal Volume
- The volume of air inhaled and exhaled at ach breath.
- Vital Capacity
- The amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in as deeply as possible.
